A tiny retreat vs. social change

Writer Eve Andrews (aka Ask Umbra) reflects on sustainability, the desire for retreat, and what really makes meaningful change.

The understanding of “how to be more sustainable” is often framed around what and how and how much to buy… A 2010 study actually suggested that purchasing ethically labeled products, perversely, contributed to “less altruistic” behavior.

There is little conversation, in the realm of “sustainable lifestyle practices,” that addresses things like: How do you cultivate respectful, meaningful relationships with the people who will help you fight fossil fuel infrastructure?
