Living in a Yurt in Alaska

Wow. This family of three lives in a yurt high up on a mountain in a remote coastal Alaskan town. The McKittricks have a woodstove but the place is only accessible by boat or aircraft. They have broadband internet but no indoor plumbing. Hello outhouse in the snow, you are hardcore. This sweet, expedition-loving couple has trekked over 7,000 miles together. Article here.

Hey thanks for re-posting this article. it is super interesting. I wrote a little bit of a response– just trying to show that yurt living can be simple and natural without being so tough. check it out: http://coloradoyurt.blogspot.com/2010/01/response-to-nytimes-broadband-yes.html

take care,
sam

Hi Sam,
Thanks for the response. I was also surprised that they hadn’t decided to put a nice composting toilet inside, or even a DIY one. That would be an obvious choice for me.
