So… it’s a mess. A blessing: we’ve been living elsewhere for a couple of weeks while we continue work on the house. Just a little housesitting/petsitting gig with our favorite pup.
- Michael replaced all of the light switch wiring.
- No more sticky floors. I spent 3 full days scraping the adhesive off.
- Michael removed the wall furnace and capped off the gas line.
- By the time it gets cooler in San Diego, we need to decide on our heating solution.
- I am rooting for a Dickinson Newport P-12000 but it’s for propane — how to convert it to natural gas?
- What about this mini gas stove?
- Or, another wall furnace. Other ideas?
- Still stripping paint… and getting ready to paint the bedroom.
- FoundĀ a source for non-PVC honeycomb shades. No disgusting vinyl in this house!

Is hydronic heating an option for you? We have two kinds here in Australia. Our country house has a wood stove that cycles water through, and heats water for cooking and washing, while the stove itself also cooks and heats. Our city house has uses natural gas to heat water that runs into a radiator that heats the house. It makes lovely clean heat that does not affect the indoor atmosphere, and the gas flue is outdoors. There are also systems that can use solar hot water.
Interesting… those systems aren’t very common around here, as far as I know. We are looking into solar hot water.
