The countdown begins

07/23/2009

Just 37 days from now I’ll be on a 3-week voyage with my tiny trailer.

Oh my, that’s hard to believe.

I am by no means an expert in this realm and rely heavily on those who have been there, done that, and documented it well. One such inspirational character is Daniel “Suelo” who just recently hit it big with a mainstream article about his voluntarily simple lifestyle: living without money.

detailsfeatures8vHe responds to this article on his blog by saying the description of him as living in extreme self-denial and austerity is not accurate:

“When you force yourself to do what you do not want to do, when you force yourself against nature, so you can get a paycheck, you are a self-torturing ascetic. Your life is unbearably hard. I decided I didn’t want to live the life of self-flagellation & unreasonable hardship anymore. This is why I walked away from it… Living without money & possessions is the way of Grace.”

While I don’t feel that my life is unreasonably hard, I do feel the extra burden of having possessions and operating in the mainstream distracts from my ability to think for myself, create and act spontaneously. I think this upcoming trip will be a clarifying one, allowing me to travel freely (road permitting) with a room of my own.
