Post image for Monday Morning Treehouse No. 9

Takasugi-an is the name of this handmade Japanese tea house, which translates to, “a tea house [built] too high.” Guests must climb a freestanding ladder and leave their shoes on a platform partway up. Inside, the space is a tiny 29 sq. ft. (that’s four and a half tatami mats) and overlooks the town where the artist grew up. The two supporting chestnut trees were cut from a nearby mountain and brought in to the site. By Terunobu Fujimori. (via Dezeen)

Reminds me of that Russian fairytale about the witch. Yaya or baba or something? I guess the roof looks like a witch hat and the trees look like spindly legs.

I don’t think I’d feel comfortable climbing so high on what appears to be rickety legs supporting the house. Yikes!
