This is current day Detroit, Michigan, the most dangerous city in the US, a city where unemployment is at 22% and half the population has left. Jim, a stay-at-home dad over at Sweet Juniper is an avid photographer of abandoned buildings in Detroit. These ruins may soon turn into praries and farmland.

I used to live in Windsor, Ontario and my first few trips to Detroit were mind blowing to say the least. I’d never seen burnt out buildings just sitting there, broken windows, abandoned cars, dead dogs and the extreme emptiness of the city. Especially at night, it’s not strange to not see a single other person outside. Of course, saying that, I love Detroit-it is also beautiful and vibrant.
These photographs really do foretell the future of planet earth once all us human beings have killed ourselves off. Nature will take over and do the demolition that we were too lazy to do!
And I love your blog!
That is truly amazing… this old Earth can heal itself if we just step back and give it a chance.
Such great architecture is being lost. At least nature is taking it over instead of a bulldozer.

The pictures of the houses, I thought it looks like nature taking itself back. What came from the earth will eventually go back.

stunning pictures. They remind me of the show called “Life after People”, which I thought was kind of a dumb show, but perhaps they got their inspiration in Detroit.
