The worst performer was spray adhesive, and the winner was a low-VOC “green” contact cement ($13.97 quart) with double-stick carpet tape being a close second. We spent part of our celebratory weekend testing out our new theory: bare fiberglass shell + contact cement adhesive + 1″ rigid polystyrene insulation = acceptable wall.

Everything seems to be working much better than before, perhaps because I had a trial run to make all of the mistakes the first time.
This trailer renovation solution does not have any funky smell, no off-gassing to worry about, the materials are non-toxic and lightweight, but my favorite part is that it is CHEAP! (Cost was $13.62 for each R-Tech brand 4×8 sheet of expanded polystyrene or EPS)
Also, no power tools necessary, just markers, rulers and a sharp knife. Okay, so we ruined a paintbrush in the process, but a minor casualty.
Our afterparty was a backyard barbecue and homemade ice cream shared with friends and family. Tanya, my friend with a Canadian Boler, inspected our work and gave us some interior decorating tips. I will be keeping it light-colored for the hot desert summers.
Progress, yay!
