Yes, we’re living on a houseboat

Our friend, who has been living here off and on for 6 years, just quit her job and went to Bali for 3 weeks. We offered to housesit — water the plants, pick up the mail, make sure the boat doesn’t sink… you know, the usual. The engine has long since past its days of working order, so we can’t take it out for a spin, and it’s not really made for ocean travel anyway. But oh what a view.

Our bed and back deck sits low on the water, facing Mount Tam. We’ve seen harbor seals, cormorants, barn swallows, and red winged blackbirds. We’ve mingled with easygoing locals (and their dogs), visited understated gems of restaurants, and of course enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

The interior is cute and quirky. Of course the tight space was not a challenge for us. We even had two friends stay the night!

Michael is training for his Sierra trip and says this is a perfect place for bike rides. He took a 45 mile trip today.

Hi,
We live with our oldest son, his wife, two grandsons, two dogs and one cat in a 4,700 sf home and we have too much stuff. Your site is inspiring as a point of reference and an ultimate goal! Peg Harper, CO
