Your story sounds a little like that of my friends Barb and Dave Rees. They have taken a motorhome and trailer across Canada twice. The first time was chronicled in Barb's book "RV Canada on a Dime and a Dream." Along the way they sold items at fairs and festivals along the way to finance their trip.
