The good news is we got a place to live without having to scramble around or settle for something less than desirable. The bad news is our little trailer has no yard to live in.
Michael and I were looking for detached studio cottages and granny flats with a backyard or patio space for our little trailer. We advertised our needs on Craigslist. I mapped out all of the available rentals and we drove by them. We could not bear to live in ugly apartment complexes. We found that many people won’t rent studio apartments to couples. We were most charmed by the beautiful little spanish-style casitas (like this), but alas, the only one that was available got rented before we had a chance to take a tour.
Then we found it. A funky, 2 bedroom, historic small house for only a little bit more money than the cottages we were looking at. And it has a garage… plenty of street parking… a spare bedroom for guests… a bathtub… an excellent view of the city… and Michael can ride his bike to work…

It seems strange to be renting a whole house when all we wanted was a little studio but this was the first place we looked at that we were really impressed with. And when you can get a whole lot more for roughly the same amount of money, well, it just makes sense to us. We’ve chatted with the owner several times now and he seems like a good guy.
I’ll have more photos to share after we move in on December 5th.

It’s great to hear from you all… Michael says Northern France must be chilly!
Great that you found a place that works for you.

Thanks! I’m really quite happy with it.
Are there more photos yet? I’m in love with houses like these. I absolutely love Tumbleweed’s new “tiny” houses that are slightly larger than their “teeny” houses. Yours reminds me of those so much!
