A small town named Colusa was the backdrop for our mini-disaster. We parked to have lunch and realized that one lug nut was missing off the trailer wheel, and the other 3 were completely loose. This must’ve happened somewhere in the last 50 miles.

The lack of lug nut caused the remaining three to strip threads like crazy and who knows how long it would’ve been until the whole wheel departed from our tiny house on wheels. I researched trailer wheel hub kits on the internet while Michael tightened up the remaining lug nuts.
A very nice guy at Les Schwab Tires gave us a free lug nut and after checking up on their tightness at every stop we make, it seems okay for now. We ought to replace both wheel hubs soon. Michael had noticed they were not in excellent condition when he re-greased the bearings back in April.

So what prompted you to check your lug nuts? Should one always check one’s nuts (oh, sorry)? But really, what clued you in?
We do a visual check of the rig every time we stop. The missing lugnut was hard to miss! Yes, we check our nuts all the time now.
